East Winds Symphonic Band

Proud to have been honored for its high standards of excellence by the John Philip Sousa Foundation with the prestigious Sudler Silver Scroll Award, the East Winds Symphonic Band, under the direction of Susan Sands, is passionate about sharing their music with communities all around the Pittsburgh region and beyond. Comprised of approximately 75 serious amateur musicians from all walks of life, and based in the eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh, EWSB has been playing a wide variety of music for over 32 years, including traditional wind band repertoire, marches and classical transcriptions, plus favorites from Broadway, and Hollywood.

EWSB performs ten to twelve concerts each year at various venues including: the annual Three Rivers Community Band Festival, Kennywood’s Celebrate America!, Monroeville Arts Council’s and Ligonier’s Summer Concert Series, Pitsburgh Citipark’s Bach Beethoven and Brunch series, the Westmoreland Arts and Heritage Festival, the Music on the Hill concert series, Saxonburg Festival of the Arts, “Music with a Mission” at Rodef Shalom Temple (benefiting the local food bank), outreach performances with local high school music programs, their own Holiday Sounds, and more!

Upcoming Special Performance

EWSB will host “Three Rivers Rhapsody”, the national convention of the Association of Concert Bands, in Pittsburgh, March 30th through April 3rd in 2016 ! Five free concerts at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall with performances by 10 preeminent concert bands will be featured, including Pittsburgh’s own River City Brass!
